Demospongiae
Facts About Demospongiae
- Demospongiae are the largest class in the phylum Porifera, which are freshwater and marine sponges.
- Like all Porifera, they are sessile creatures and therefore can not pursue their own prey.
- With the help of flagella the water passes through the pores and the individual cells of the central cavity with the help of cilia.
- Once in the central cavity, the cells absorb and digest the nutrients through the process of phagocytosis.
